Crescent River

Description of Internship

The Goal of the internship is to introduce mentees to various opportunities available in the lower Mississippi River maritime industry. Interns will have the opportunity to travel round trip on a Crescent Pilot Route and learn in-depth about the geography of the river and the major role that the Port of South Louisiana plays in global commerce. Participants will spend time at the CRPPA Pilot Station and will have opportunities to shadow an engineer, boatman, deckhand, and galley personnel. Main Office Participants will report to the pilot’s main office and shadow various departments and aspects of the unique global supply chain logistics process that takes place on the Mississippi River.

Requirements of Internship

  • ll interns must be comfortable with being on the water as well as transitioning between two moving vessels.

NOBRSPA

Description of Internship

The New Orleans – Baton Rouge Steamship Pilots Association internship program will teach mentees how piloting operations are handled on a day-to-day basis, assist mentees in understanding various career opportunities in the maritime industry, and outline the requirements and industry connections needed to obtain employment. The intern will have the opportunity to shadow employees and have an up-close look at everyday operations such as Dispatch Operations, Invoicing Operations, and so much more. For the duration of the program, interns will be working side-by-side with mentors.

Cooper Mooring

Description of Internship

Internship will take place on Mon, Wed, Fri from 0700-1500 with a 30-45 minute break for lunch. Internship will last for 2 weeks.  Interns will be working in an open warehouse with exhaust fans as well as possibly traveling by vehicle to locations on the river, so environmental consideration should be given. Interns will also learn about the daily operations at Cooper Mooring mechanic shop and be guided by experienced mentors. There is a break office at the mechanic shop that has chairs, AC, and restrooms. A safety and operations orientation the first day.

Requirements of Internship

  • Daily Log and Final Essay all submitted on the OpenWatersLouisiana website portal
  • The intern will need to provide their own lunch
  • Intern will need transportation to and from the shop at 1840 Enterprise Drive Harvey, LA.
  • Intern will need to wear pants and a t-shirt, closed toe shoes, preferably boots. Additional safety gear will be provided

Louisiana CAT

Description of Internship

Louisiana CAT internship runs from July 5th to July 26th, Monday through Friday, from 2:30 AM to 3:30 AM. The purpose is to raise the awareness of High School students to a potential career as a Diesel Engine Technician through a paid ($15/hr) 3-week summer program designed to inform and expose them to this exciting and rewarding industry in a safe and controlled manner. Work duties include: Positioning and organizing new and takeoff parts, handing tools to technicians, cleaning, sweeping and organizing work areas, cleaning use parts and completing online and in-person training.
